ABOUT ME
HELLO, IM VANESSA KERWIN
I originally studied Industrial Psychology and Sociology at the University of the Witwatersrand and then worked in recruitment and human resources. Often my work would include mediation and conflict resolution and well as informal counselling. After having a family, I re-skilled as a trauma counsellor through the Woodstock Trauma Centre and worked as a volunteer counsellor at a police station for four years. During this time, I began studying a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling at the South African College of Applied Psychology, which I completed in 2008. I then worked at various addiction treatment facilities before deciding to focus on my private practice and locum work in 2012. My counselling style draws from a range of disciplines including CBT, DBT, person centred, and solution focussed counselling. I believe in open dialogue, interaction, honesty, and unconditional positive regard. My counselling goals include development of self-awareness, self-evaluation, and a move towards greater self-acceptance.
